Sushant Singh Rajput Case: CBI Presents Charge Sheet

New Delhi: The CBI has submitted closure reports in connection with two cases relating to the tragedy of the death of the Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, whose body was found in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. The reports were submitted before the Mumbai and Patna courts, to pen down the conclusions. No foul play was found during the investigation. Rajput was 34 then, and hanged to death, which was confirmed on his postmortem report.

The closing report has been filed following an extensive enquiry by the CBI, taking over from the earlier argued-in-probative factors by the Mumbai Police. The Police had opined that Sushant Singh Rajput's was being ruled a suicide and did not immediately suspect homicide. However, after huge public outcry and propaganda through various conspiracy theories online, CBI took over the case and began investigating further from September 2020.

It should be noted that the regularization of a closure report does not at all mean the case is permanently closed. The closure report has been submitted before the corresponding lower court; that court will have to satisfy itself regarding compliance with the findings, and it will be for the magistrate to decide whether or not they wish to accept the closure report or go for further investigative procedure.

This case remains one of the most high profile revelations of the time, and attention is attracted from every quarter. With the CBI's closure report, there is still doubt in the minds of some of his fans and family members about what really happened.

The closure report closes the investigation officially, but it does not rule out further scrutiny. In this particular case, public speculation may contribute to how such cases are viewed in the future.
